Asia’s Leading Wire, Cable, Tube and Pipe Trade Fair Attracts 4,850 Visitors From 64 Nations and 356 Exhibitors From 35 Countries
Decision Makers Top Visitors List

wire Singapore and Tube Singapore 2001 were declared open by Mr Leong Horn Kee, Chairman of GPC for Finance and Trade & Industry on Tuesday, 25 September 2001.

In his opening address, Mr Leong indicated that “the wire and tube industry is a key element for the manufacturing and infrastructure industries. There has been growth of the wire and cable industry”. He added that the “iron and steel trade in Asia itself has increased from SGD1.8 billion in 1999 to SGD2.1 billion in 2000. With the expected growth of Asia markets in the medium and long term, there will be a need for more infrastructure and construction development.”

The combined exhibitions saw many companies bringing in more machinery, equipment, accessories and tools for sale and demonstration on-site. Dr Horst Birkmann, President, International Wire and Cable Exhibitors Association highlighted in his speech at the Opening Ceremony that, “In comparison to 1999, the number of exhibitors has risen to 284 (from 232). From our shipping agents we learned that about 600m3 of freight have arrived for wire and Tube. Compared to 1999, this is more than double. All this is strong proof of the confidence the exhibitors have for this region of the world and Singapore as its hub.”

The three-day exhibition attracted 356 companies from 35 countries including 10 national group participation from Austria, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Russia, Spain, Taiwan and USA. 4,850 trade visitors and professionals from 64 countries visited the exhibition. 93.28% of the visitors came from Asia. Manufacturers, producers and decision makers tops the visitors list. They represented a wide cross section of industries ranging from Building & Construction, Electrical & Electronic, Engineering Services, Metallurgical & Metal Products, Telecommunications and Oil & Gas.

Visitors were generally pleased with the products and services showcased at both exhibitions. Many indicated their interest in making a purchase or placing an order for a machine or product that were displayed on site.

The next wire Singapore and Tube Singapore will be staged from 23 to 25 September 2003 at the Singapore Expo.
