A Word from the MD
2001 was indeed an eventful year for many of us. There was an urgent need for most industries,
in particular the electronics industry, to re-strategise and re-position themselves in this highly
competitive marketplace. Many have opted to trim costs and improve on overall efficiency.
For our company, we have also re-look into our trade fair calendar and will
consolidate and re-position some of our shows. Anchor shows such as ASEANPLAS, wire Singapore, Tube
Singapore and PRINTEC ASIA will continue to be staged in Singapore in its current cycle.
HOSPIMedica ASIA will now be held annually whilst OS+H Asia will be held every other year concurrently
with the medical show. The concept for our trade fairs dealing with factory automation, process
automation and logistics (IA/ICAM/LOGISMAT) will be further adjusted and streamlined in
accordance to the market situation in Asia.
While most of us will exercise caution in our investments, we cannot neglect the
fact the Asia is still an important market. For instance, during our last show on
wire and tube in September 2001, our exhibitors were pleased with the quality of
the visitors who came from quite a wide variety of industries. The money and time
were well spent at the show as there was strong “trading” taking place.
Most of us will expect some form of upturn in the economy and in accordance with
analysts, there should be signs of recovery during the second half of 2002.
We ursher in the year of the horse this year and accordingly to the chinese belief, this
year is a year of action, enterprise and achievement leading to an upturn in
certain key industries and an improvement in the global economy.
We are convinced and look forward to positive signs once again.
With best regards,
Gernot Ringling
