June 2002 Press Information A Full Value-Packed Programme at Southeast Asia's leading Healthcare Platform A quick look at the health status of the Southeast Asian region shows that the region has seen an increased momentum in health development. Overall life expectancy has increased, crude death rates have declined and infant mortality rates have improved considerably. However, the region still faces some daunting challenges such as the burgeoning population, high maternal mortality rates and the increase in non-communicable diseases. All these have resulted in creating a greater demand for healthcare.
