N.Viswanadham is Deputy Director of The Logistics Institute Asia-Pacific and also Professor in Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, Senior Editor of IEEE Transactions on Robotics and Automation. He has held several prestigious positions before joining NUS; he was a GE Research Fellow during 1989-90, Tata Chemicals Chair Professor at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, the recipient of the 1996 IISc Alumni award for excellence in research. He is the author of several text books, journal articles and conference papers. He is the lead author of two textbooks, the first entitled "Performance Modelling of Automated Manufacturing Systems", published by Prentice Hall Inc., USA in 1992. The second entitled "Analysis of Manufacturing Enterprises - An approach to leveraging the value delivery processes for competitive advantage", published by Kluwer Academic Publishers, Boston in 2000. His current research interests include Logistics, Supply Chain Management and Business-to-Business Commerce. Analysis of Manufacturing Enterprises An Approach to Leveraging Value Delivery Processes for Competitive Advantage N.Viswanadham, The Logistics Institute Asia-Pacific, National University of Singapore Overview Manufacturing Enterprises are networks of companies in alliance, sharing the same destiny for mutual business advantage. In such networks, the material and information flows-from raw material production to retailer sales-are optimally and collaboratively managed to create value to the customers and stakeholders. Such networks are a common occurrence in auto, grocery, apparel, computer, and other industries. The first part of the book focuses on foundations of manufacturing enterprises - the generic value delivery processes, their performance measures and redesign to meet specifications on lead time and defect levels. The second part provides a comprehensive discussion on new product development, order to delivery and supply chain processes, the core processes in a manufacturing enterprise.
In addition to the Total Enterprise Solutions Conference, there will be two other conferences organized by and held at the National University of Singapore. ICMT '01, the 5th International Conference on MechatronicsTechnology 6-8 June 2001 The conference will focus on the emerging mechatronics developments and the innovative use of mechantronics technology in the New Millennium. Log on to http://guppy.mpe.nus.edu.sg/~icmt01 for more information. ACRA2001, the 4th Asian Conference on Robotics and IT Application. 6-8 June 2001 ACRA is held once every 3 to 4 years. The theme for the 2001 conference is "Robotics in Unstructured Environments -New Applications". More information on this conference can be found at http://guppy.mpe.nus.edu.sg/~acra01. SOLUTIONS SHOWCASE Three solution showcases will be featured at IA, ICAM ASIA and LOGISMAT 2001 - FOUNDATION Fieldbus Showcase, PROFIBUS Showcase and Factory Automation Showcase. Meet up with industry experts and get updated on the latest developments in the fields of networking communications and total enterprise automation. 1. FOUNDATION Fieldbus Showcase Fieldbus Foundation - the leading organization dedicated to a single international, interoperable fieldbus standard. The Fieldbus Foundation's technology FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus is a field-level and host-level industrial network protocol and control strategy programming language compatible with ISA and IEC standards. In the booth the world's leading automation suppliers will demonstrate interoperability between a wide range of field instruments and several control system hosts. This technology provides users with savings throughout the system lifecycle, from engineering and construction, to operation and maintenance. 2. PROFIBUS Showcase PROFIBUS - Hop-On to the Worldwide Process Fieldbus for a Live Application on the Joint PROFIBUS booth in Hall 6, Singapore Expo ABB, Burkert Contromatic, Endress+Hauser, Festo, Hirschmann Electronics, Samson and Siemens will show how easily devices of different manufacturers work together and control the processes live in an application at their joint PROFIBUS booth. Experience and feel how the bus works and get a hands-on to real plant process operations. Find out more on
3. Integrated Factory Automation Showcase The showcase for Integrated Total Enterprise Automation aims to provide the professionals with the means of using IT as an enabler to facilitate information flow and functional application interoperability via close communication, open information access and connectivity, and distributed process management and control. The showcase will demonstrate on how to bring Industrial Information Technology (IT) and Open Standard Ethernet/ Fieldbus Network Communication Technology to Factory Automation in simple, effective and interesting formats. Functional Applications running on Web server and front-end Browser-based presentation of applications would also be shown to meet the primary objective of delivering the right product to the right customer at the right place at the right time.
